Our Tuscany Wedding and Buddymoon: Lake Como to Amsterdam
We got married in Poppi, Tuscany on June 21, 2024, then spent three weeks traveling with our friends: Lake Como, the Amalfi Coast, Dubrovnik, Split, Vis, Hvar and Brač, ending at the Taylor Swift concert in Amsterdam.
On June 21, 2024, we got married in Poppi, a little hilltop town in the Casentino valley of Tuscany. We’d fallen for it on our first trip to Italy and kept coming back. After the wedding, instead of disappearing on a honeymoon by ourselves, we did a buddymoon: three weeks of traveling with our friends through Italy and Croatia, ending, of course, at the Taylor Swift concert in Amsterdam.

The wedding in Poppi
We said our vows under a floral arch on a lawn in the Tuscan countryside, with cypress trees all around and our people right there with us. Afterward we took photos on a red Vespa, because how could we not?
Why Poppi? We’d visited twice before: once on a chilly March trip and again the October before the wedding. Every time, the Casentino valley felt like ours, with its quiet roads, stone villages and long dinners. Read about those trips in our Italy guide.

Before the wedding: Lake Como
The crew gathered on Lake Como a few days before the wedding for dinners on the lake in Bellagio, a boat day, and a swim in the gorge at Nesso.
After the wedding: Amalfi and the Croatian islands
Then we went straight to the sea: a boat day under Positano’s cliffs, a few days in Dubrovnik, and then Yacht Week, sailing the Croatian islands with our friends. We had scooters on Vis, coves and Carpe Diem on Hvar, and sunsets on Brač.

We ended the whole thing in Amsterdam at the Eras Tour. There’s no better way to close out the best few weeks of your life than screaming every word with your friends.
If you’re planning a destination wedding plus buddymoon
- Pick a place you already love. Visiting Poppi before the wedding made every decision easier.
- Keep the buddymoon flexible. Not everyone could come for every leg, and that was fine.
- Book big-group boats and stays early. Summer in Amalfi and Yacht Week weeks fill up fast.
- End with something fun. A concert, a festival, a big dinner. It gives the trip a finish line.
